About the farm
Situated in the leafy village of Croxton Kerrial, the farm is home to 130 sheep and free range poultry, including geese, bronze turkeys, chickens, and ducks.
A 500-acre mixed farm
We have proudly nurtured this land for generations. Learn more about our farm and the traditions that have made us who we are today.
The history of the farm
The farm is a part of the Belvoir Estate and the Botterill family have been tenants for over 80 years. Richard and his wife Jo manage the farm and they are the third generation of the family to do so. Richard’s father, Gerald, and his grandfather, Wilf, were the previous generations who also farmed the land.
Traditional farming methods
We are proud to use techniques that have been perfected over generations. When our family started producing poultry for Christmas in the mid 80s, it was on a small scale. We carefully selected slow-growing strains and allowed them to mature outside in grass paddocks. We have remained committed to rearing quality poultry using the best welfare conditions. It is gratifying to see that our traditional principles are still valued by our customers.
Preparation
Once the birds are mature, they are prepared on the farm using our purpose-built processing facilities. We dry pluck and hang the birds for at least ten days in chilled conditions to develop a fuller flavour. We maintain full control over the birds at every stage, from accepting the day-old birds to packing and dispatching the boxed birds for our final customers. This ensures we maintain the highest welfare standards and full traceability.
