Free Range Turkeys
Traditional Thanksgiving Day Turkeys. Thursday 23rd November 2023
American Thanksgiving is traditionally celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. In America it forms part of the public holiday season in much the same way as a bank holiday in this country. This years celebration is the 23rd November , but since this is midweek most parties in this country are either the weekend before or after. With this in mind we rear a special group of turkeys which arrive on the farm a month before the main flock so that they are fully mature for Thanksgiving just like our Christmas turkeys. They are then processed in the traditional manner being dry plucked and left to mature for ten days in our chillers before being eviscerated and boxed ready to be picked up from the farm. You can order your Thanksgiving turkey below.
Bronze Turkeys
When we originally started to produce free range geese 20 years ago we could not find a Christmas turkey that we were happy to eat, and so for several years we only produced geese. That is until we discovered bronze turkeys.
Specially Selected Birds
The birds that we rear have been specially selected from slow growing strains which are allowed to grow to full maturity at six months. During this prolonged growth period the turkeys are allowed to graze freely in the pastures that surround the farm in much the same way as the geese. Many of our traditional production methods are shared between the turkeys, geese and chickens that we have on the farm.
Bird Feed
All the birds receive a mix of home produced wheat and vegetable protein which is totally free from growth promoters and additives.
In order to help develop the full flavour of the turkeys they are dry plucked and hung for 10 – 14 days before being carefully boxed ready for the customer.
The birds come with vacuum packed giblets to make that all important gravy which completes the centre piece to any Traditional Christmas feast.
